Everything you need to know about rugs β buying, caring, cleaning, and more.
ποΈ Shopping & Buying
Traditional, Modern, Tribal, and Decorative are the four main types we carry. Within those categories you'll find a wide variety of sizes, patterns, qualities, and price points β from machine-made to hand-knotted, small accents to oversized room rugs. We also carry brand-name rugs like Karastan, proudly made in the USA, and hundreds of styles that can be ordered in custom colors and sizes.
We have area rugs starting as low as $199, up to fine masterpieces in the thousands β and everything in between. Pricing depends on size, construction, materials, dyes, and knots per square inch. Because we're a direct importer, our prices are already 50β70% below what you'd pay at a typical retailer.
First, know the size of the space you want to cover β measure the full room, not just where you imagine the rug sitting. Many people buy rugs that end up too small. Also consider your budget and focus on color and pattern. Our team is happy to walk you through the options in person.
Two common mistakes: buying a rug that ends up too small for the space, and not accounting for chairs pulled away from a dining table when measuring. Measure both the largest the rug could be AND the smallest you'd want β that gives you a range to shop within.
Quality handmade rugs are made with superior dyeing processes β the yarn is washed multiple times before and after weaving to lock in color. Some natural mellowing may occur over decades (a prized quality in antique rugs called "abrash"), but you won't see the kind of fading you'd get from a lower-quality rug.
Pads aren't required to protect rugs or flooring, but they add a softer feel underfoot and can prevent lighter rugs from slipping. We carry high-quality rug pads that can be custom-cut to fit any size.
π§Ί Care & Cleaning
A few simple habits go a long way:
Vacuum regularly β removes dirt and restores life to fibers. Avoid vacuuming the fringe.
Rotate annually β ensures even wear across the rug.
Use a pad β protects against slippage and uneven wear.
Act fast on spills β blot (don't rub), dilute with water, remove solids carefully with a spoon.
Professional cleaning every 3β5 years β depending on traffic level.
Never use chemicals or steam on Oriental or handmade rugs.
When a rug still looks soiled after vacuuming, it's time for a professional cleaning. Rugs in kitchens or entryways may need cleaning every 6 months. In lower-traffic areas, every 1β2 years is usually sufficient.
Act quickly. Here's a guide for common stains:
Coffee, tea, wine: Apply mild soap + water, blot. Then ammonia + blot, vinegar + blot, soap + water again, finish with clear water + blot.
Wax: Place a brown paper bag over the spot. Run a warm iron over it, moving constantly. Repeat until wax is absorbed.
Ink: Saturate spot with hairspray, let dry, then brush lightly with water and vinegar solution.
Chewing gum: Press ice against the spot until brittle, then break off. Use spot remover on remaining traces.
Glue: Saturate with a cloth soaked in vinegar or rubbing alcohol.
